Home Tutor Jobs in Singapore: How to Get Tuition Assignments

13 October 2026 · Tutor Circle

Home tutor jobs in Singapore are one-to-one assignments, matched to a child, a subject and a budget. January brings the most new parent requests, after PSLE posting and year-end results. A tutor who wants those cases needs a finished profile before the school year starts, not in the second week of term.

How an assignment is filled

Tutors apply to listed assignments. A short, specific note about the level and the subject is what gets read.

A parent submits a request: level, subject, area, budget, and what the child is struggling with. The case appears on the tuition assignments list. Tutors apply. Coordinators send the parent a shortlist that fits the budget and the timetable. The parent chooses. The first lesson is agreed directly, including length and the payment day. [1]

  • Sign up and verify the profile, including the levels you will actually teach this term.
  • Watch the assignment list, and apply only where the subject and the area are real for you.
  • Reply with a rate inside the band, the evenings you can keep, and one line on how you would use the first month.
  • If the parent accepts, confirm travel time before you promise a 7pm slot across the island.

A longer walk-through of the first case is on how to find tuition assignments. Setting up as a private tutor, including what to put on the profile, is on how to become a private tutor.

Who parents ask for

Parents hire a type, not a generic tutor. Quote the band that matches the profile you actually have.

Parents do not all want the same tutor. The four types below are the ones the rate table is built on. Quoting an ex-MOE rate when you are an undergraduate, or quoting a student rate when you are a full-time tutor, is how a shortlist gets declined. The buying guide for parents is on the ex-MOE, full-time and student tutor page.

Table 1. What each tutor type is usually hired to do. Rates are the October 2026 bands.
TypeTypical hireP6 hourly band
StudentHomework finished, practice marked, a patient weekly hour$30–35
Part-timeA steady subject tutor for the year. The most common match$30–40
Full-timeA topic that needs rebuilding, or a scarce afternoon slot$45–55
Ex-MOEExam phrasing, or a subject the parent wants a school teacher for$60–85

Sec 3 sits one band higher: part-time $35–45, ex-MOE $65–95. Additional Mathematics and pure science cases are where a specialist profile beats a general one. [2]

What to quote

The parent pays the tutor for lessons taught. Quote the band for that level, then hold it.

Quote the band for the level, then say what is included. A 1.5-hour lesson is the usual length in these assignments. Four of those lessons are a typical month. State whether you mark school homework inside the hour or bring a separate worksheet. Travel across two planning areas is a reason to sit at the top of the band. It is a weak reason to jump to the next tutor type.

The bar is the top of the part-time range in the October 2026 bands. P1 to P4 share $35. P5 to Sec 2 share $40. Sec 3 is $45. Full-time and ex-MOE bands are higher and are on the rates page.

Parents pay you for lessons conducted. Before the first case, read the tutor fee schedule so you know the current terms. A rate remembered from a chat group is how disputes start. [3]

A profile that gets shortlisted

A tutor on a bus planning a blank weekly grid in a notebook
Name two evenings you can protect. A profile that says flexible and then declines every case is filtered out.

Be specific about the last paper you can teach

  • Name the level and the syllabus: “Sec 1 G3 mathematics, algebra and linear equations”, not “all maths”.
  • Say whether you teach in person, online, or both, and which estates you can reach on a weeknight.
  • Give two evenings you can protect. A profile that says “flexible” and then declines every case is filtered out.
  • If you are ex-MOE, name the subject you taught in school and the years. If you are a student, name the course and the subject you scored in.
  • Examples of how a strong profile reads are on the tutor profile examples page.

The worked examples are at tutor profile examples. A parent comparing you with a centre is reading for one thing: will this person teach my child, on this evening, at this rate.

When to be ready

Requests bunch in January, May, and September. Travel time between estates is part of whether a 7pm slot is real.

Parent requests bunch at three points. January, once Secondary 1 posting is done and the new year starts on 4 January 2027 for the next cohort. May, when mid-year papers come back and families want a tutor across the June holiday (29 May to 27 June 2027). September, for Primary 6, because the written papers in a typical year fall in the last week of that month. The dates are on the 2027 school calendar.

Questions tutors ask

How do I get home tutor jobs in Singapore?

Create a tutor profile on Tutor Circle, list the levels and subjects you can teach this term, and apply to open assignments. Parents describe the child and the budget. Coordinators match a shortlist. The public list of open cases is at tutorcircle.sg/tuition-assignments. Sign-up is at tutorcircle.sg/sign-up.

How much do home tutors charge per hour?

In Tutor Circle’s October 2026 assignment bands, a part-time tutor is commonly $25–35 an hour for P1 to P4, $30–40 for P5 to Sec 2, and $35–45 for Sec 3. A full-time tutor and an ex-MOE teacher sit higher. A tutor who is still a student is usually matched in the lower part of the part-time band. Quote inside the band for that level. The full table is on the rates page.

When is demand for tutors highest?

January is the busiest month for new parent requests, after year-end results and Secondary 1 posting. The next busy stretch is May, before the June holiday, and September for Primary 6. A profile created in December is in the pool when January cases open. A profile created in the second week of January is competing with tutors who already applied.

Do I need to be an MOE teacher to get assignments?

No. Parents request student tutors, part-time tutors, full-time tutors and ex-MOE teachers for different gaps. A current undergraduate who can teach primary mathematics, and who writes a specific profile, is matched every week. An ex-MOE title helps when the parent has asked for a school teacher. It does not replace a clear subject list.

Does the parent pay Tutor Circle a fee on top of my rate?

Parents pay the tutor for lessons conducted. The hourly rate you agree is the parent’s rate. Read the current tutor fee schedule at tutorcircle.sg/tutorfee before you take a case, so the deduction, if any, is the one on that page and not a number remembered from a forum.
