Tutor Profile Examples: How to Write a Strong Tuition Application

Tutor Profile Examples: How to Write a Strong Tuition Application

Parents do not read a tutor profile for personality. They read it to decide whether you are a possible match for one student, this term. The difference between a skipped application and a trial is usually four missing facts: level, proof, rate, and timing.

Use the samples to rewrite your own profile, then send a shorter version when you apply for an assignment. Price the lesson from the rate guide, not from the numbers in these fictional bios if your level is different.

What should every profile include?

Put the facts in this order. A parent scanning a list of applicants will not hunt for them.

  • Level and subject in the first line. “Primary 5–6 Mathematics” is a headline. “Passionate educator” is not.
  • One result the family can ask to see: A-Level grade, degree, or a past student’s assessment movement described without the student’s name.
  • Where you teach and how long the trip is from a named town.
  • Two or three weekly windows, not “anytime”.
  • The hourly rate for that level, aligned with Tutor Circle’s part-time, full-time, or school-teacher column.
  • What lesson one will cover, in a single sentence.

Weak profile versus strong profile

The left column is the message tutors send when they want to sound flexible. The right column is the same person, rewritten so a parent of a Primary 5 student can say yes or no.

Fictional example for a part-time tutor. The $35 rate sits inside Tutor Circle’s upper-primary part-time band of $30–40 an hour [1].

Three sample profiles

Each sample is invented for this guide. Do not copy the grades or the student results as if they were yours. Replace every fact.

Sample 1 — University student, upper primary Mathematics

Headline: Primary 4–6 Mathematics | NUS Year 2 | Tampines.

I teach Primary 4 to Primary 6 Mathematics, especially problem sums on fractions, ratio, and percentage. I am in my second year at NUS and scored A for H2 Mathematics. This year I tutored two Primary 5 students; one moved from AL5 to AL3 for Mathematics at the mid-year assessment. Lessons are at the student’s home in the east, about 20 minutes from Tampines, or online. I leave three practice questions after each lesson. Rate: $35 an hour. Available Tuesday and Thursday after 4pm, and Saturday morning.

Sample 2 — Graduate, O-Level Chemistry

Headline: O-Level Pure Chemistry | NTU Chemistry | Queenstown.

I teach Sec 3 and Sec 4 Pure Chemistry, including qualitative analysis and the calculation questions students lose on Paper 2. I graduated from NTU with a Chemistry degree and have taught four upper-secondary students over two years, all of whom sat Pure Chemistry. I bring topic worksheets and mark them before the next lesson. Rate: $40 an hour, inside the upper-secondary part-time band of $35–45. I can do Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons at the student’s home, or online if the family prefers. Lesson one diagnoses the last topical test and reteaches one calculation type.

Sample 3 — Full-time tutor, H2 Economics

Headline: JC1–JC2 H2 Economics | full-time tutor | islandwide by arrangement.

I teach H2 Economics essay and case-study skills: definitions used precisely, diagrams labelled, and an evaluation paragraph that answers the question asked. I tutor full-time and currently have six JC students. Rate: $80 an hour, inside the junior-college full-time band of $70–90. I teach at the student’s home or online, and I confirm locations before accepting a case so travel does not collide with the next student. Each lesson ends with one timed extract and written comments. I do not take Sec 1 or primary assignments.

Turn the profile into the application

The assignment note is shorter than the profile. Keep the four facts and delete the rest. This note matches Sample 1 and a Primary 5 case in the east.

Sample assignment note

I can take this Primary 5 Maths assignment on Tuesday and Thursday after 4pm. I am about 20 minutes from Tampines. I scored A for H2 Mathematics and have taught Primary 5 fractions and ratio this year. My rate is $35 an hour. The trial can use the problem sums from the last weighted assessment, and I will set three questions before the next lesson.

What to leave out

A graduate tidying a desk before writing a tutor profile

These lines cause more harm than a short profile.

  • NRIC, bank account, or address of your own home. Share contact details through the platform after you are matched.
  • A promise of AL1, a distinction, or a fixed grade improvement. You can describe a past result. You cannot sell an exam outcome.
  • Another agency’s students, or a complaint about a previous parent.
  • Every subject you once passed. List the papers you are ready to teach this month.
  • A rate with no level attached. $40 means different things at Primary 3 and at JC.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a tutor profile be?

About 80 to 140 words, plus the headline, rate, and weekly times. The samples above are in that range. A longer story of why you like children does not help a parent compare you with the next applicant.

What if I have no tutoring experience?

Use your own grade and a precise lesson-one topic, as in the structure of Sample 1, and say you are taking a first student at that level. Do not invent a past student’s AL improvement.

Should I mention several subjects?

Mention a second subject only if you are ready to be hired for it this month, and give it its own line with its own level. Do not hide it inside “all subjects”.

Can I use the same note for every assignment?

No. Keep the proof and the rate. Change the first sentence so it names the level and area on that case. A copied note that still says Primary 5, sent to a JC Economics case, is an easy rejection.

Conclusion

Rewrite the headline, the proof, the rate, and the weekly times before you apply. Open current assignments when that paragraph is true, and create your tutor profile if the account is still empty.
