Horse Riding in Singapore
13 October 2026 · Tutor Circle
Horse riding for children in Singapore starts at a riding school, not on a lead along a beach. Bukit Timah Saddle Club, Singapore Polo Club and Gallop Stable each publish a minimum age. The youngest supervised pony sits are from about 3. A proper beginners lesson is usually from 6. Weight limits are rules.

- Youngest sit
- About 3 years, on a short lead or intro, if the stable’s weight limit is met
- Beginner lessons
- Often from 6. Bukit Timah’s beginners experience is minimum age 6
- A published course
- Bukit Timah public beginners course: $980 for eight 45-minute group lessons, GST included, rate card 1 October 2026
- Polo Club
- Pony Academy, ages 6 to 21. Academy membership is separate from club membership
- Wear
- Long pants, closed shoes, a fitted helmet from the stable
- Weather
- Outdoor arenas stop for lightning. Read the stable’s cancellation rule
Three schools
Singapore is short of riding land. The schools that take children on a regular week are clubs and stables with their own ponies, not a pop-up in a park. Read the page of the school you will actually travel to. A fee list from another year is a history note.
| School | Young children | Older beginners |
|---|---|---|
| Bukit Timah Saddle Club | Pony ride from age 3, 20 minutes, Sundays 4.00pm–5.20pm, $45 | Beginners experience from age 6. Public course of 8 group lessons, $980 |
| Singapore Polo Club | Pony Academy from age 6 | Unmounted horse care plus riding. Non-members of the club can apply to the academy |
| Gallop Stable | Pony intro at age 3 only, 20 minutes, 40 kg and under | Junior private, ages 4–12. Full private lesson from age 6, 75 kg and under |
Bukit Timah states that registration is not a confirmed booking. Wait for the stable to confirm the Sunday pony ride. [1] The Polo Club’s academy runs weekly sessions that include time off the horse, grooming and handling, for ages 6 to 21. Joining the academy is not the same as joining the club. [3]
Gallop publishes weight caps beside the age caps. The 3-year-old intro and the junior lesson stop at 40 kg. The 45-minute private lesson from age 6 stops at 75 kg. A one-time registration of $32.70 applies to a new enrolment. [4]
Ages and weight
A 3-year-old on a lead-rein for twenty minutes is a taste. It is not a sport yet. The child sits, holds a strap, and gets off. Lessons that teach walk and trot, and how to steer, start when the stable says the child is old enough to follow an instruction in the saddle. At Bukit Timah that beginners experience starts at 6. [1]
Weight limits protect the pony. If the child is over the number on the page, ask for a different horse or a later start. Stay with the stable that keeps its own limit.
What the 2026 Bukit Timah card costs
The rate card dated 1 October 2026 prices a public beginners course of eight group lessons at $980, GST included. Members pay $750 for the same eight lessons. A single hour for a new rider, the beginners experience, is $170 private or $145 semi-private on the lessons page. Pony rides are $45. [1] [2]
Bukit Timah Saddle Club, eight-lesson beginners course
Singapore Polo Club has published riding fees in earlier years. Use the club’s current list, not a 2024 PDF, before you compare it with Bukit Timah’s 2026 card. Gallop’s lesson prices are on its own page and should be read there on the day you book. [4]
The first lesson

- Long pants, closed shoes, hair tied. Wear the riding helmet the stable fits.
- Arrive early enough to watch the pony be led out. The lesson clock starts at the mounted time, not at the car park.
- The instructor decides walk, trot, and whether the child holds the reins. A parent at the fence stays at the fence.
- Asthma spray, a bee-sting history, and a fear of dogs or horses belong in the booking note.
- After the lesson, hands get washed. A pony is an animal, and the rail is not clean.
- One lesson does not make a rider. Eight lessons is the shape of Bukit Timah’s beginners course. Judge after the third, when the nerves have settled.
Afternoons in Bukit Timah and at the polo grounds get lightning. If the stable cancels, their rule on make-up lessons is the one in your receipt. A weekend that is also a school holiday is harder to book. The dates are on the 2026 and 2027 pages.
Riding is a weekly skill, like a music lesson. If the household is choosing between a Saturday pony and a Saturday tutor, the school subject that is slipping still needs its own hour. Piano, if that is the other option, is on the piano page. Tutor Circle matches one-to-one tutors. Parents pay the tutor. WhatsApp +65 9628 4702.
Questions parents ask
Where can children go horse riding in Singapore?
Three established schools take beginners: Bukit Timah Saddle Club, the Riding Academy and Pony Academy at Singapore Polo Club, and Gallop Stable. Each sets its own minimum age, weight limit and price. A beach ride and a weekly lesson are different products. Start with the lesson if the child has not sat on a pony before.
What age can a child start?
Gallop Stable’s pony intro is for 3-year-olds only, 20 minutes, at or under 40 kg. Its junior private lesson is for ages 4 to 12. Bukit Timah Saddle Club pony rides are from 3 years, on Sundays, and its beginners experience requires a minimum age of 6. Singapore Polo Club’s Pony Academy is for ages 6 to 21. A stable can refuse a child who is under the age or over the weight, even if you have paid a deposit.
How much are riding lessons?
Bukit Timah Saddle Club’s public beginners course, on its rate card dated 1 October 2026, is $980 including GST for eight group lessons of 45 minutes. Members pay $750 for the same course. A single beginners experience there is $170 private or $145 semi-private, minimum age 6. Other stables publish their own lists. A 2024 fee PDF is not this year’s price.
What should a child wear?
Long pants, closed shoes with a small heel if you have them, and a helmet. The stable lends a helmet that fits. Avoid sandals, skirts, and anything that flaps near a pony’s eye. Tell the office about asthma, allergies and a recent fracture before the lesson, not at the mounting block.
Is horse riding safe for a beginner?
A lead-rein or instructor-led lesson at a licensed riding school is the beginner path. The instructor leads or stays with the pony. The child holds the reins only when the instructor says so. Lightning and heavy rain stop outdoor arenas. The stable’s cancellation rule, not the weather app on your phone, decides whether you still pay.
